Close examination of any ancient world culture or tradition will reveal that pictures or symbols have always been used to convey complex and abstract meanings. A symbol can say so much more than that which is easily communicable in spoken or written language and the ancients believed that certain symbols can affect us at a subconscious and spiritual level.
